Mark was born in Invercargill and attended Otago Medical School, graduating MBChB in 1979. Following this he specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology obtaining his FRANZCOG in 1988.
Mark spent four years in Oxford, England completing post graduate studies before commencing practice in Auckland in 1988. He has worked in full-time private gynaecological practice since 1996.
Mark has a long term interest in Minimal Access surgery, performing both Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic procedures in addition to general Gynaecological Surgery.
He has a special interest in the management of women with endometriosis, and women who require investigation and management of heavy periods or irregular vaginal bleeding.
Mark has performed over 1500 Laparoscopic Hysterectomies since 1993 and over 2500 procedures to excise endometriosis. The surgical outcomes are positive and the complication rate is low.
Mark is recognised as an expert in the field of Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic surgery and lectures at meetings around the country. He is also a Director of 'Endometriosis Ascot', a centre of excellence for the management of endometriosis.
